Network Theorems

Solving for currents and voltages in multi-loop electric circuits can be quite complicated, particulary for AC circuits. The voltage law and current law always apply, but using them may lead to long systems of equations. Certain theorems help with network analysis:

Superposition Theorem
For multiple-source circuits, the circuit current from each source can be calculated individually, and the results added (superimposed).
Thevenin's Theorem
Combinations of voltage sources and impedances with two terminals can be replaced by a single ideal voltage source and a series resistor.
Norton's Theorem
Combinations of voltage sources and impedances with two terminals can be replaced by a single ideal current source and a parallel resistor.
