Hydroxyl-Herderite

CaBePO4(OH)

These samples of hydroxyl-herderite are displayed in the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History. Hydroxyl-herderite is herderite without the fluorine content or if the hydroxyl group is dominant over the fluorine. It is a phosphate mineral of beryllium with the composition CaBePO4(OH). The sample at left is about 8 cm across and is from Virgem da Lapa, Minas Gerais, Brazil.
